Black Women in Computing (BWiC) is an online community created to provide online support, resources and to increase the number of black women in computing related fields. BWiC is the product of the GHC2010 Women of Color luncheon themed, "Building Our Community: Moving Vision into Reality". In continuation of this effort, we invite all Black women in engineering and computing fields to join this list.

Using BWiC
The mailing list is organized around conversations. To begin a new conversation, send email to Alternately, if you would like to specify a name for your new conversation, send your message to, replacing name with the name you would like (e.g.,

Subscribing to BWiC

Subscribe to BWiC by filling out the following form. You will be sent email requesting confirmation, to prevent others from gratuitously subscribing you. Once confirmation is received, your request will be held for approval by the list moderator. You will be notified of the moderator's decision by email. This is also a hidden list, which means that the list of members is available only to the list administrator.

    In order to protect the privacy of its members and provide a confidential online forum, this list requires subscribers to provide a short response on their qualifications to join. To join the list, please respond to the following: 1) What qualifies you as a black woman in computing (i.e. what is your involvement in technical computing) one or two sentences is enough. 2) Please state that you HAVE READ and AGREE to follow the rules in the frequently asked questions. Thank you!

    You may enter a privacy password below. This provides only mild security, but should prevent others from messing with your subscription. Do not use a valuable password as it will occasionally be emailed back to you in cleartext.

    If you choose not to enter a password, one will be automatically generated for you, and it will be sent to you once you've confirmed your subscription. You can always request a mail-back of your password when you edit your personal options.
