Hi,
You can download the VDI image from:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5582707/devimage.tar.bz2
I will be updating wiki soon but here are few necessary details:
1)The compressed file is 800 mb in size but later on it will require atleast
4 gb of hardisk space. It consists of Ubuntu 8.04 with Systers Mailman
Installed.
2)The first user I created during installation was kanika (I wanted to
change it to a more generic name like 'systers' later on after successfully
running Mailman, but then this would have changed the host name at many
places too).Similarly the laptop name is also kanika :D(sry you can change
it according to your convinience later on). There are two users in the system
kanika(first user created during installation) and fmaster(who is the owner
of the site-wide mailling list of Mailman).
3)The password for everything(Mailman or User account paasword) is reset123.
4)Wherever Domain name was required I placed laptopname.networkname as my
Domain name.So you will find things like kanika.rt2561_1 where 'kanika' is
the laptop name and 'rt2561_1' was my network name.So one necessary change
to get Mailman running at your place will be to replace 'rt2561_1' with
your network name. The files where you will need to make above change will
be:
- /etc/postfix/main.cf
- /usr/local/mailman/Mailman/mm_cfg.py
- /etc/hosts
Make sure to do :
- /etc/init.d/postfix reload
- /etc/init.d/mailman stop
- cd /usr/local/mailman
- sudo bin/check_perms
- sudo bin/check_perms -f
- /etc/init.d mailman start
after making changes in above mentioned files.Mailx is installed and you can
use that for sending mails locally from system users to Mailman.Wherever
email-id is asked you can simply write username at domainname. For eg: Since
kanika is one of the users her email-id will be
kanika at kanika.rt2561_1according to present configuration. The first
kanika you see in email-id is
the username and second one is the laptop name which as told above is the
part of domain name (laptopname.networkname).
Goodluck and let me know If further problems show up ;>
Thanks
