Cannot comment much without looking at the postfix/mailman logs. Some
points that you might want to go through:

1. Check if the transport map for the domain has been added in
/etc/postfix/transport and the new db has been generate using postmap.
2. And transport_maps is set in /etc/postfix/main.cf
3. Double check that the mailman transport is present in
/etc/postfix/master.cf.

Restart/Reload postfix if any changes are made to the above.

I notice the above steps were missing in Step By Step System
Installation at the Systers Wiki. I have had to do this while setting
up several mailman installations on deb based distros. Should hold
true for Ubuntu 8.04 as well.
