[Systers-dev] - Development Image

Kanika Vats is working on a development image to help students get up and
running more quickly this summer

She's been working on building a Ubuntu iso.

Kanika Vats here is my suggestion. Instead of creating a Ubuntu iso
(although it's pretty awesome that you are working on making a custom
version of Ubuntu - aka know as "rolling your own" -- make a Virtual Box
image.

You can read about Virtual Box here: http://www.virtualbox.org/

Here is my suggestion:

1 - Install Virtual Box (it's cross-platform and works on most OS's)
2- Create an image with everything working for MM and Systers.
3- Save the image as a .vdi
4- Anyone with Virtual Box installed can just load the .vdi

I actually have the good part of an image working already -- just ran into
some problems getting Mailman to send email to/from localhost and then never
found the time to fix. Let me see if I can find a copy and put it somewhere
for you to download -- if you'd like to try.

Alternatively, if you want to get together on irc -- say Sunday evening we
can work together on getting the image put together.

Anyone else have any suggestions, time to work on the image with Kanika
Vats?

Thanks,

Jen
