We just got notified that we've been accepted for the 2010 Google Summer of
Code. This is exciting. We don't know yet how many students we will get,
but applications will be pouring in very soon. I'll be in touch shortly
with the people who have volunteered to be mentors (and if you were on the
fence about this, it's not to late to put your hat in the ring).
Prospective students are being encouraged to join this list and ask
questions. Please be your usual helpful selves. If any of you are
interested in contributing to the systers projects, if you are a student,
please apply to Summer of Code. If you aren't a student, you can't be a
formal participant in Summer of Code, but it would be a great time to get up
to speed, when a bunch of others are learning at the same time. And those
of you with some expertise who don't have time to do a coding project -- I'd
love some help this summer making us more rigorous about our source code
control practices, our code reviews and our test driven development. If any
of those buzzwords makes your heart go pitter-patter, please contact me and
we'll figure out a role for you.
