There were two problems -- one was the old "Not a branch" issue
--solved. Second, was the inability to push or pull anything
from LP which occurred after the changes made here:

Since I was not sure how the second problem suddenly occured,
re-installing bazaar was the easier option.

I'm not sure either, but I'm assuming that the earlier "Not a branch"
error (a known bug) may have something to do with it? Until then I'd
not experienced trouble doing a checkout.

Yes, I was able to do a checkout.
