[Systers-dev] Time for weekly updates

Hi all,
time seems to fly, already Friday.
My work this week has mainly been focused on creating a view for the
customized Systers create list function that is connected to a model (and a
separate DB). I faced some severe inheritance issues since I wanted to
inherit the code for the standard UI and just add the Systers customizations
but apparently the model form I used can only inherit from one parent class
so in the end I had to do a hack and hard code the standard UI's fields. :P
Needless to say, I'm not happy with this solution. I've looked at different
options to this and tried some different solutions as well but so far this
was the only way I could find to get a working view. I think for the moment
I'll leave the view this way and come back to it later and try again (I
already wasted so much time and energy into this, that I think some distance
might help me get some perspective and enabling the possibility of later
finding a better way of dealing with this).
Apart from the unruly create list view, I filed three bugs with functions
we'll need in the rest-server and have also discussed these with Barry. He
already implemented the first one and will now start on the second one. The
last one, dealing with passwords (for login, creating lists etc.) was
apparently not as easy as I would have thought so he asked me to send an
email to the Mailman developers list to start a discussion and this I did
just before writing this email.
I've also given some minor thoughts to design of the settings page and
discussed minor alternate ways of doing stuff in Django with my mentor who
was positive to trying my suggestions out. Particularly one of the
suggestions would automate things in the templates but we would need to find
an alternate way of implementing fieldsets so this is what I'll look into
next.
That would be all for this time, I wish you all a nice weekend and a lovely
(continued) Friday.
Cheers,
Anna
