Hello,

This week (hmm... more like two weeks), in order to automate the
software testing effort, I had installed and tried out tools like like
Funkload, Twill, Selenium, etc... for testing.

On Hardy, Funkload had to be installed manually but running it to test
systers-MM (for bug583379) was not upto expectations --it would not
handle the slash path in the URI properly- Other than google most
pages would not even fetch. On ocassion I've ranted about Funkload
problems on my blog but need to blog about other tools which I liked
and used a lot more. Twill was easy to write small scripts and fetch a
few pages, However, after a few trials I found that the IDE component
of the test tool namely Selenium1.0.1, is useful to automate the
testing for bug_583379 on
DLIST : http://abiwt.org/mailman/admin/dlist-583379 and
NON-DLIST : http://abiwt.org/mailman/admin/nondlist-583379 , of
Membership Management Page of the Systers' mailing list administration
Module.

After the initial round of manual testing each testcase in the
checklist [http://systers.org/systers-dev/doku.php/checklist_specific_for_bug_583379],
out of the nearly 45-50 testcases to be used for carrying out the
integration testing, I tested for around a dozen test cases using
SeleniumIDE -- I was able to repeat the testing again without the
need to re-enter the input data. It was possible to automate the input
process by storing and fetching data from a file automatically during
the process. All the data inputs, including 'mouse clicks' were
recorded with commands for reuse. Yesterday I had mailed copes of the
script files to my mentors for their feedback and reference. This week
I intend to complete automating the DLIST and NON-DLIST of bug583379
for the remaining testcases to verify the system.

Thanks for reading and Have a nice weekend!
