Wow, lots got done while I was out. (But we didn't get all the testing
done. If there are folks, especially some of you who weren't available
today, who can help with the rest of the testing -- looks to me like all
the rest will take about 30 minutes max -- let kathyg at anitaborg.org know
ASAP. We'd like to be done by midday saturday).
Also, the system that hosts our development machine is going down for about
20 minutes at 10pm pacific time TONIGHT (bout an hour from now), so anything
you do after that time is suspect, if someone is working on tests tonight.
I wanted to give you an update on the tests that failed, or were believed to
have failed. This was an excellent learning experience for those of us who
"know too much".
1. AMM1 see if mass subscribe works. (Kathy R tested this). There were
two concerns
- that the name of the list shows as a link but doesn't have a +new in
it (it is dlist-506024 at abiwt.org ):
That shouldn't be a link, but presumably your email client
linkified it. Not sure what to do about this (so far as I know, it's never
tripped anyone up). Any thoughts?
- that the instructions talk about the essay, but it doesn't make
sense.
You are right. I have no idea what is going on there (i wonder
if it got misplaced from another test). We will fix that in the
instructions.
2. AMM4 turn on digest mode and force a digest out. ( Kathy R. tested
this). The digest preamble has
Send Dlist-506024 mailing list submissions to dlist-506024 at abiwt.org
when it should say
Send Dlist-506024 mailing list submissions to dlist-506024+new at abiwt.org
That has apparently been a problem since forever and none of us doing these
tests have noticed it before :-( (blush) Thanks, Kathy. But it's not
related to any of the bugs we are testing for, so we are filing this as a
bug and it will be fixed later.
3. ULP5 (Pat G tested this). Subscribe without completing essay.
Comment: this was the message: You have NOT been subscribed to the mailing
list dlist-506024. We need additional information
Yeah, and that's what's supposed to happen :-) This was fixed by one of our
GSOC summer students, and I guess the instructions never got updated.
Thanks for catching it.
4. UPM2 As a subscriber, send a message to *listname*+new+*subject*@
abiwt.org (tested by Malveeka)
Comment: If the mail was sent to
506024-dlist+new+test_subject at abiwt.org<506024-dlist%2Bnew%2Btest_subject at abiwt.org>,
the mail recieved had this as the to address:
506024-dlist+testsubject at abiwt.org <506024-dlist%2Btestsubject at abiwt.org> -
the underscore was removed.
Yes, this is what should happen. To make sure that an email address cannot
be used for malicious hacker attacks, the to address undergoes a "websafe"
filtering (it makes sure the to field has only letters and numbers and
allowed characters like -, +, @). So removing underscores is supposed to
happen. We will change the example so that people are not tempted to put
underscores in their test case.
5. UPM6 As a subscriber, send to
*listname*+*existing_subject*@abiwt.org(tested by malveeka)
This failed, as Malveeka hypothesized, becase of UMP2 -- the name of the
existing conversation was testsubject, not test_subject (which is what she
tried). She tried again using a conversation that didn't have special
characters in it, and that passed.
So all of the tests so far have either passed (possibly leading to
instruction updates) or are bugs that we can live with a while longer and we
will file bug reports on them. The testing is a success so far, and none of
the tests has to be repeated. Just a few more tests and we can release
this.
Thanks to everyone who has helped,
Robin
